5 for Good: Hyde Square Task Force empowers youth through Afro-Latin arts

BOSTON — After school at Hyde Square Task Force, HSTF, there is educational enrichment, but help with homework, while vital, is just the start.
The daily rhythm of the 35-year-old youth empowerment organization includes plenty of fun. The big appeal to kids is music, dance and theater, said arts manager Nic Perez.
“To be able to come here after school and bang on a drum and no one’s telling you to be quiet, but instead you’re able to have that outward expression,” Perez said. “It can be transformative.”
