AMR New Haven: First responders seeing rise in motorcycle crashes in first few weeks of spring

(WFSB) – First responders are seeing a rise in motorcycle crashes in the first few weeks of spring and are urging riders and drivers to be safe.
Michael Turcio, the operations manager at American Medical Response in New Haven, says that crews have responded to 20 motorcycle accidents since late March. Most of them were either fatal or near fatal.
“Nicer weather’s out, people want to get out there,” he said. “What we are seeing are lack of helmets. Making sure people follow speed limits and stay visible, minimize distracted driving.”
First responders say both riders and drivers are to blame. Riders are not wearing helmets, drivers are distracted, and both speed.
