Guest column: Wrongful conviction compensation law needs fixing

Think about everything that has happened in your life over the past 42 years. That is the amount of time that my uncle Clifford Williams and I lost when we were wrongly convicted of a Jacksonville murder in 1976.

We lost our freedom, but I refused to lose hope. With the help of the Innocence Project of Florida, our case was re-investigated under State Attorney Melissa Nelson’s new conviction review unit. Uncle Clifford and I finally walked free on March 28.
