Innocence Project MI: Michigan bill would fix ‘gap’ in exoneree compensation. Some say it doesn’t go far enough

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — When the charges against Roderic Pippen were dismissed in February 2024, it took five minutes.
Pippen, who spent nine years in prison for a Detroit murder he didn’t commit, was on a Zoom call when a Wayne County judge ended the case. He said there was no apology. He wasn’t compensated.
“Have a nice life,” Pippen said, summarizing what it felt like. “It was over in like five minutes. No accountability, anything.”
