Innocence Project: Pennsylvania needs to mandate recorded interrogation

Confessions are a crucial form of evidence in our legal system. In my former career as a police officer, and in my current one as an attorney, I’ve seen confessions seal convictions, sway juries, and end doubts about guilt. However, confessions can be falsified, given under extenuating circumstances or even coerced.

False confessions can result in devastating consequences. Pennsylvania now has an opportunity to strengthen our judicial system, protect law enforcement, and safeguard taxpayers by passing legislation requiring the electronic recording of custodial interrogations in cases involving violent crimes.
