MassPotential: One-third of BPS seniors risk not graduating high school in June

More than one-third of Boston Public Schools seniors are not on track to meet a new graduation requirement for core coursework, district data show, leaving many of them at risk of not earning high school diplomas in June.

Despite five years of lead time before students were required to pass the “MassCore” curriculum, BPS faces a graduation crisis, with more than a thousand students still falling short of the needed courses, which include four years of English and math, a year of art, and more.

High-needs students and students of color are most at risk of being held back or having to attend summer school, district data shows.
