Miller: Wrongful convictions show need for criminal justice reform

Nathan Myers and his uncle, Clifford Williams, had their murder convictions overturned in March after spending 43 years in prison for a crime they did not commit.

The two men served longer prison sentences than any prior exoneree in Florida history and are seeking compensation for all the years spent behind bars. Under Florida’s statute, eligible exonerees are entitled to at least $2 million.

Myers, now 61, was only 18 years old when he was sentenced to life in prison. Williams, 76, was 33 at the time and was sentenced to death.
