New England Donor Services: Organ recipients in Holyoke express gratitude to donors

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Organ recipients in Holyoke gathered to express gratitude to their donors ahead of Thanksgiving, urging more people to register as organ donors.
The event, held at Holyoke City Hall, was organized by New England Donor Services alongside state and local officials to address the low organ donor registration rate in Massachusetts, which is below the national average.
“Every day I drink my bottle of water with my meds, I give a little toast to my donor, and it’s just, I wouldn’t be alive right now if it weren’t for this selfless person,” said Elizabeth Gorman, a local organ recipient.
Gorman, a resident of East Longmeadow, shared her story of receiving a double lung transplant two years ago after radiation treatment for breast cancer damaged her lungs. She emphasized the importance of organ donation and encouraged others to discuss it with their families.
