Solar can repower our economy and save homeowners money
As Massachusetts continues to reopen, we are starting to see the groundwork for repowering our economy. Solar power and the clean energy sector are ready to create jobs in Lowell and throughout the commonwealth that could help provide relief from both the scourge of climate change and the economic fallout of the coronavirus.
After the 2008 financial crisis, the clean energy sector was a bright spot that helped lead the economic recovery in Massachusetts and nationwide. To spur our growing industry, the state Legislature passed landmark environmental legislation in the form of the Global Warming Solutions and Green Communities Acts in 2008 and set bold goals for solar power, which the industry not only embraced, but exceeded.
When our solar company first started serving Lowell nearly a decade ago, there were just a handful of employees working in Massachusetts. Today, we employ nearly 500 workers throughout the commonwealth including sales people, installers and others throughout the state – many of whom are living and working in the Merrimack Valley.
Massachusetts has always been a national leader in clean energy, but now we have an opportunity to expand programs and make solar more widely available. To get a glimpse of what this could look like, look no further than Lowell.
