Springfield Prep Charter School prepare for ‘Girls on the Run’ 5K in June
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, students from Springfield Prep Charter School gathered to demonstrate life skills they’ve learned from the organization, ‘Girls on the Run’.
More than 50 runners ran a practice 5K this Wednesday evening, to highlight the positive impact of this 10-week social-emotional program. It’s made up of girls in 3rd grade through 8th.
Studies have shown that girls’ self-confidence begins to decrease by age nine and many experience bullying between 10 and 13. By integrating running creatively into a fun experience-based curriculum, it’s said that girls are inspired to be happy, healthy, and self-assured.
