UniBank: UniBank CEO surprises crowd with another charity stunt

So what kind of stunt is Mike Welch going to pull off this time?
You couldn’t blame people for asking that question as they filed into the DCU Center ballroom on Friday for the Worcester Regional Chamber’s annual meeting. Welch, chief executive of event sponsor UniBank, shocked the room last year by hiding envelopes under every coffee cup saucer, with a note saying the bank will send $100 to the charity of the person’s choice. All they had to do is fill out the short form and mail it to Welch.
“This year, people were on to me,” Welch said.
So Welch told the crowd this time that he wasn’t going to pull off the coffee cup saucer stunt again.
Instead, later in his speech, he told the chamber members to look under their chairs. Turns out, Welch led a group of eight bank employees the previous day to tape cards to the chairs. Same deal as last year: Fill out the form in the card with your favorite Central Mass. charity, and send it to Welch. This time, though, he upped the giveaway to $150 — in honor of the Worcester chamber’s 150th anniversary.
